Enhanced Data Modernization and Maintenance Toolset Provides Greater Flexibility and Faster Development for Enterprises Maintaining and Transforming COBOL Data
BEND, Oregon, Jan. 31, 2011 – Alchemy Solutions, provider of legacy modernization solutions, today began shipping NeoData Version 2, with three significant upgrades to its modernize-as-you-migrate suite. The new solution – comprising NeoData SQL, NeoData Utilities, and NeoData zLink-- provides remarkable flexibility and agility for organizations, lowering the effort, time, and risk of migrating legacy COBOL applications and VSAM data.
By increasing the options available for migrating these legacy applications and data to Windows, NeoData V2 enables faster development and deployment of modernized applications, and widens the company's leadership in mainframe modernization technology and services. .
NeoData Utilities
The newest addition to the NeoData family are the NeoData Utilities – an integrated set of file transfer, conversion and editing capabilities that takes the guesswork out of dealing with complex COBOL data records. NeoData Utilities enable enterprises to migrate COBOL data quickly and with confidence, significantly reducing the time and effort involved. NeoData Utilities ensure that all data conversion challenges are identified and dealt with. They are an essential tool for customers engaged in platform migration or maintenance of COBOL data.
NeoData SQL with SQLCLR Support
The NeoData solution set enables companies to migrate VSAM or indexed file data to Microsoft SQL Server without rewriting legacy COBOL code. Using NeoData, organizations have the benefits of storing data in SQL Server without being required to go through difficult and risky code and data transformations.
The new release of NeoData SQL adds support for using SQLCLR, a Microsoft technology for hosting .NET code in SQL Server. This added support provides an alternate means for storing data in SQL Server that delivers faster, more flexible, and more reliable integration with SQL Server.
NeoData zLink with NeoBatch Support
Introduced in early 2010, NeoData zLink is a mainframe innovation that eliminates the requirement for migration to be an all-or-nothing proposition. Without code changes, NeoData zLink enables users to target specific applications, or subsets of applications, for re-hosting without having to move all their associated VSAM data. This means that organizations can leave VSAM data on the mainframe or continue their migration by moving the data to SQL Server using NeoData SQL
In this newest release, Alchemy Solutions extends the ability of NeoData zLink by adding access to VSAM files from batch applications in addition to online (CICS) transactions from the original version. Now batch applications can be migrated to Windows even if they still need to share VSAM data with applications remaining on the mainframe. .
In addition to reducing the risk of migration, this benefit also results in faster development and shorter time to deployment.
“These new product upgrades for the NeoData family address the most common concerns when organizations are considering migration: time consuming, tedious, and risky work associated with migrating data,” said Basim Kadhim, CTO for Alchemy Solutions. “Working with systems integrators and customers, these enhancements to our proven solution set continue our emphasis on delivering tools that make mainframe migration and modernization faster and easier.”
NeoData V2 has begun shipping to systems integrators and early adopters, who are already putting it to productive use in legacy migration projects.
