Alchemy Solutions Announces NetCOBOL® for .NET V4.1 with Support for Visual Studio 2010

Developers of COBOL Applications for the .NET Framework Environment Can Now Take Advantage of Visual Studio 2010 Features

BEND, Ore.-- Alchemy Solutions, Inc., distributor of the Fujitsu NetCOBOL line of highly reliable COBOL compilers, today announced NetCOBOL for .NET V4.1 with support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4. Developers of COBOL applications for the .NET Framework environment can look forward to taking advantage of the great features in Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4, particularly enhanced development and debugging functionality.

“We have been very pleased with our decision to be one of the first COBOL compilers to support the .NET Framework,” said Ron Langer, general manager for Alchemy Solutions. “The .NET Framework was well designed from the beginning and has held to its promise of giving easy access to the latest Windows technologies. With this new release of.NET Framework 4 and Visual Studio 2010 we expect our users to see performance improvements, particularly on 64-bit versions of the .NET Framework, in addition to benefiting from the multitude of other features Microsoft is delivering.”

“Microsoft is pleased that Alchemy Solutions, a Visual Studio Industry Partner, has invested early in supporting Visual Studio 2010 and our next-generation application development platform, and is today simultaneously shipping NetCOBOL for .NET V4.1,” said Eddie Amos, General Manager, Developer Platform and Tools Marketing at Microsoft Corp. “Products like NetCOBOL for .NET V4.1 help customers to simplify their development process from design to deployment when using Microsoft products like Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.”

Basim Kadhim, Chief Technology Officer for Alchemy Solutions, added, “Our NetCOBOL for .NET customers, whether coming from the mainframe or other COBOL development environments, really appreciate the benefits they gain from working in this environment. We expect they will particularly enjoy features like floating data tips that show data values and being able to preserve these across debugging sessions. That ability will be a big time saver. Often debugging sessions need to be repeated several times before a bug is located and setting up monitors on many data items can be time consuming. The new editor’s ability to zoom in and out of code makes visualizing code much easier.”

In addition to support for Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4, NetCOBOL for .NET V4.1 includes support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as side-by-side compatibility with previous releases of NetCOBOL for .NET.

NetCOBOL for .NET V4.1 will be available in May.
