Mainframe Migration
Alchemy Solutions products enable migration of COBOL CICS and batch applications to the Windows/.NET environment. They include modernize-as-you-migrate features that are described on the Modernize-As-You-Migrate page. In this section we focus on the features that enable the migration and the benefits of making the migration even if you ignore the additional modernization benefits.
- IBM® COBOL code migrated to NetCOBOL for .NET
- CICS code migrated using NeoKicks with BMS screens converted to look-alike, behave-alike ASP.NET web pages
- Batch JCL jobs executed using NeoBatch and managed using the GUI NeoBatch Job Manager – familiar terminology plus user-friendly management of catalogs, jobs and execution
- DFSORT® and Syncsort® sort commands executed blazingly fast with NeoSort
- VSAM files supported as COBOL indexed files or migrated to SQL Server using NeoData with equivalent performance and semantics (and NO COBOL code changes)
- Option to leave some VSAM files on the mainframe so that they can be shared with applications remaining on the mainframe. Enables finer granularity in determining which application [parts] to migrate.
- Reduce application maintenance costs by 60 to 90% - if you are able to migrate everything off the mainframe, savings can be significant.
- Free up mainframe MIPS – if completely moving off the mainframe is not an option for you, then migrating some applications that do not have to stay on the mainframe can be a very effective way of providing more MIPS for those applications that do have to stay.
- Avoid expensive mainframe upgrade costs - staying on the mainframe can be prohibitively expensive if you have been using an older model.
- Reduce energy costs per transaction – read the “Comparing Mainframe and Windows Server Transactions per kWh” white paper
- Retain program and programmer assets
- Existing COBOL code is preserved and the value of both program and programmer is increased as they can achieve new results in the .NET environment.
- Programming staff motivation is increased as they are provided with leading-edge development tools and are working in the mainstream of today's Internet-oriented technology.
